A female Ireland age 36-40, *n love and confused writes:

Ok, iv been with my boyfriend for nearly four years, he is a few years older than me, im 20 and he is 24. the first 2 years we were together were brillant, we had such a good time and had a healthy sex life. We decided to move in togeher, which was really good for the first few months, but after nearly a year of living together i moved back home, it had taken its toll on us and the constant arguing over the 'who should make dinner, clean etc' became too much, also as the apartment was his to begin with, i felt that this added fuel to the fire in every argument as he would point this out.

After taking a break from each other for around 3 weeks, we decieded that we no longer wanted to be apart and decided to give it another go.

Now, we are not living together, we are back to the way we were when we were living together, arguing all the time. I really do not want to split with him as i love him very much and him the same, but we just cannot seem to get on and no matter what steps we take we are still in the same position, please help so we can get our relationship back!!

sexi agony auntHi, to be in a relationship it is hard work. Just hang in there ang things would sort themselves out. When you feel an argument coming on, avoid it. Try to be extra nice to you bf (even though it may be hard),then he would have no option but to do the same.If things are really bad go for some counselling together.

Regards, mail me if you wanna talk

A female reader, BHigginbotham United States +, writes (20 August 2007):

BHigginbotham agony auntAs depressing as this may sound...people change and sometimes the real person doesn't appear until a fair amount of time goes by. It sounds as though you two might be too much alike to be together. Yes, I know that sounds strange but it is true. Personally I am not sure if there is anything that can bring back something that wasn't real. In the beginning of all relationships things are so new that they sound perfect. Both people feel as though they have to walk on egg shells in order to make the other happy. Also, in the beginning everyone wants things to be so perfect that they will "put on an act" in order to make it work. The reason I am saying this is because that is what happened to my first serious relationship. I was too worried to say how I really felt so I just went with it. The consistant fighting with you two is a sign that something isn't working and the only people that can figure that out is the two of you! I hope things work out!! Good Luck!
