A male reader, CrazyMind United Kingdom +, writes (15 April 2009):

CrazyMind agony auntI'd say maybe not, given that not taking the pill regularly, but forgetting one morning and then having sex means you could get pregnant.

The combined pill stops ovulation, which means the woman doesn't release an egg for fertilisation. [It also thickens the mucus around the cervix making it difficult for sperm to get into the womb.]

If she'd released an egg soon before you'd had sex, then there's an increased chance she may get pregnant. If, however, she'd just come off her period, you had sex the day after, and then she went on the pill again, I'd say there's not such a great risk.

So, your answer is - If she released an egg that hadn't been released from the body before you had sex, then there's a good chance she'll get pregnant. Otherwise, you've dodged a bullet.

You should always use protection. Even if the female is on the pill, the pill does not protect against sexual transmitted infections [STI/STD/SAI/SAD, whatever you want to call them]

I'd advise that before ever having sex without a condom, both yourself and the girl get a full check for any STIs etc., and you should always get checked between sexual partners - it's better to be safe and have been tested 50 times, than to not get tested, and unknowingly passing HIV to everybody you sleep with.

My advice would be to have the girl either take emergency contraception, or get a pregnancy test.

Be safe,

Crazy.
