Yes it's far too early for a shop-bought pregnancy test 6 days after unprotected sex. Sperm can live in the uterus and fallopian tubes for 4 -5 days after ejaculation and may fertilise an egg at any time while it's there - could be up to a 4 days after you had sex. The pregnancy hormones (which the pregnacy test looks for) only really start showing up in significant amounts until the embryo has implanted into the uterus wall which happens 7 -14 days after fertilisation (depending on your own cycle. A blood test from your doctor will be able to pick pregnancy up earlier but probably not until after 3 weeks.

Most pregancy tests will not give you a true result until your next period is late. If you need to find out before then, you'll need to discuss you options with a doctor

I don't think I can add anymore to Tisha's reply except to stress YES you could get pregnant from unprotected sex at any time in your cycle. It's less likely right after your period but still possible.

You should get tested for STD's as soon as possible and take a preganancy test as soon as your next period is late.

If you can get to a doctor today or tomorrow morning, they may be able to sort you out with a coil to prevent pregnancy but it's too late to get the morning after pill.

You should buy some condoms as soon as possible so you're never caught short again

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (30 November 2009):

Tisha-1 agony auntAnytime anyone has unprotected sex, there is a possibility of pregnancy. A 15 year old boy who wants to have sex without a condom is the absolutely WORST sex expert I can think of. He's going to say anything to 'nut' inside you. *shuddering at the vulgar terms* And you would be a nut to allow him to do so. It's your body, you're the one who gets pregnant, you're the one who has to go through the abortion, or the pregnancy, and then either have to figure out how to raise a baby, or have to give it away.

Don't let your ovaries do your thinking for you! GET SMART!!!!

Before you have any more sexual contact, I think it would be a good idea for you to watch this video and then read the links I'm providing below.

If you are driving a car, you need to know how to do it safely. If you are having sex..... you see the point here?

No one can look after your health and well-being like you can. No one will look after your health like you do. If you mess up, the only one who gets hurt here is you. Okay? So let's get some info posted here for you. Follow the links below (you may have to copy/paste some) before you do anything else sexual! Take care.

Sarah:) agony auntYes, you could be pregnant anytime you have unprotected sex. And he wouldn't know considering he's only 15. You shouldn't be having sex at 14 anyway.
