Unprotected sex at the end of her period. Could I have caught something from doing this?

A male United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Hi, something troubles me.

Earlier this week me and the girl I recently started dating had sex. We'd used a condom the first few times we had sex, but we've been together for a month now, and so have recently started doing it without protection (she is on the pill).

However, and I know this is a little cringe worthy, but this is why I'm worried. The last time we had sex was nearing the end of her period. When we finished, she had bled a little. Since I wasn't wearing protection, is there a chance I could catch something from doing that? Does that ever occur?

I'm not afraid to get myself checked out, but I just wanted to know if I'm potentially in any danger of catching something.

if she did have an STD then you would catch something whether she was on her period or not. just simply use a condom as the pill is not 100% safe. my friend was on the pill, took it the same time every day and still ended up pregnant all because they did not use a condom as well as the pill.

there's nothing wrong in people have sex when a woman is on her period..i personally could not stand a man near me at that time. lol. but you wont catch anything if she does not have any std's,etc.

DoubleM agony auntIf your girlfriend is disease-free, then you are not going to "catch something." A bit of menstrual blood is harmless unless the woman is infected with a sexually transmitted disease.
