Unhappy with my boobs. Is surgery the answer?

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Recently I've been thinking of having a boob job. My Mum can and will pay for it if it's what I really want but now that I have the opportunity, I'm beginning to have some doubts. I don't like the way they look at all, they're very small at 28-30A and not perky and firm, in fact I'd say they look nearer droopy. There's no point in trying to sugarcoat it, they are bad-looking boobs and always will be without surgery. Even with all the enhancers, I still can't get ANY cleavage.

But then I was thinking, it's not me who has to really look at them and in every other way I like them - they never get in the way, I don't need a sports bra, I can sleep any which way, they're healthy with no problems (e.g cancer) running in the family, they're very sensitive (if I lost sensitivity I'd be devastated and if there's a good chance of that I wouldn't even consider it), and if I'm not in the mood for any attention I can wear baggy clothes and hide them (which sometimes I do). So I'm wondering is it really for me?

I can't totally convince myself all those things are worth potentially sacrificing in order to look better in clothes or to attract more men. I'm also worried the men I attract may be shallow or only taking notice of my appearance. I would also probably only be able to go up 1, maybe 2 sizes anyway as I have a very petite frame and any bigger would just look stupid. Saying that though, I would like the extra confidence having a boob job would bring and not having to be so anxious about how I look in clothes and it might help me look older (I look much younger than my age).

So if you were me, would you go for it and why? I'd also like to hear from anyone who's had the surgery and were you happier after it?

I'd also just like to point out I'm not going to rush into it anytime soon. I'm still just thinking about it for now.

Thanks in advance:)

Gabrielle Stoker agony auntIf it's what you want and you're not doing it under pressure from anyone, I guess you can try. Make sure you go to a good surgeon though - the sort that first asks you whether you're really sure you want to go through with it.

Hey you!

First off, Im a guy with no preference for certain boob size on a lady. That being said, there are some guys out there who arent shallow, you just have a sense of who they are. I have a stripper friend in the USA who had hers done, shes now a 36 DD and she had them done for confidence. Ive never seen her happier. I, myself, have opted for a little stomach surgery as Ive been frustrated with belly fat. Also, apparently most women dont find my mind attractive so hopefully a new look will help me gain attention. Your case is much different I think. Id take your time and pic a good doctor and go with your mom. Feel great about who does it thatll help give you confidence to that youre doing the right thing for yourself. Good luck on your decision :)

If you have a boyfriend, try asking his opinion.

Just from what you've written, I suspect that you may be being too critical of yourself, or maybe you're holding them up to an unreasonable standard (they don't look like what you've seen in the movies and on TV, whatever). But trust me, they don't have to be perky to look good. In my opinion, a woman's chest naturally tends to be the right size and shape for her body.
