I have a similar problem, except that my hair is naturally the texture of steel wool, and I have to straighten it every day.
I have a CHI straightener and I HATE it!!!! (No offense to the previous poster) My mom loves the CHI iron, but it's not for me!
I've been doing some research, and I have decided that I want to get a SEDU straightener. It's supposed to be the premier hair straightener. It's a little more expensive but it's worth it because I'm vain.
Just don't forget to turn it off once you're done with it... I'm paranoid about appliances... I have a little checklist by my door that I look @ before I leave home every day
I DID get a perm once though. Even though I have natural curls, the perm made the curls organized and polished instead of one big mass. I got lots of compliments... and I didn't have to do anything to it, just wash it and put mousse in it.

i have the same exact type of hair as you, so hopefully my answer will be somewhat helpful.
if your thinking about the brazilian straightening thing (permanent straightening) i would NOT** do it.
reason 1, you sit in a chair at the salon for FOUR hours while they use chemicals in your hair that are so hazardous everyone has to wear a mask.
reason 2, for three days after you do it, you CANNOT touch your hair. no ponytails, you have to be very careful while you sleep, and you can't even wash it.
reason 3, it can get quite expensive, and only last a couple months. you will still need to straighten your hair everyday, though not as much.
and the last reason, it is HORRIBLE on your hair. your hair will NOT be silky and smooth.
i'd suggest buying a Chi straightener, the one for course hair. it will give you the same effects, for longer, for about the same price.
hope i helped xx

You can wash your hair like normal your hair wont frizz in the rain and style it like you want.. good luck on your choice..

hey my hair is the same way. i just straighten my hair. the salon i use to go to charged about $50.00 for a chemiclal straighten. it will damage your hair over time. i would suggest leaving your hair down at night, having it in a pony stresses out your hair. the straightener will probably cost about $50 for a good one but you only pay for that only once. air dry/towel your hair b/c a blow dryer will damage your hair.
