Trying to stop smoking, having a hard time, can anyone share their experiences with trying to quit smoking cigarettes, how do I motivate myself?

I gave up smoking about 2 months ago. 9 weeks to be precise. I have probably smoked 20 cigarettes this week alone though! I only had 2 the whole time previous to that. I am using patches and am on stage 2. I really should be going down to stage 3 next week, then 2 weeks later free of nicotine replacement altogether.

But i'm starting to struggle to stay motivated! I mean, 20 smokes this week alone is not good is it! I haven't let it set me back to a full time 20 a day smoker like i used to be but i do feel rubbish now and down in the dumps! It can only get worse when my pmt sets in, thats when i struggle the most, and when drinking alcohol.

I guess what i was wondering is, have any of you given up smoking, and did you slip up but still manage to give up for good, and how did you stay motivated to stop!?? I love the extra money (not the extra weight mind you!)

Call the NHS line, they have a million tips and local support groups. They sound touchy feely but really it's just like slimming world for blokes where you go down and vitch about how much you want a ciggy.

Their number is 0800 022 4 332

Good Luck!! xx

My friend swears by the Allen Carr books, "Easy ways to stop smoking", available from all good book shops. The one thing she did warn was you had to follow all the instructions in the book, and it only works the first time. You can also contact your doctor or your nearest clinic as the NHS currently run "stop smoking" clinic and they will give you free patches that will help you stop.

I've been told, if you've tried to give up once, even if you slip up, your more likely to give up one day, because your training your willpower to get stronger. Unfortunately I can give you no personal experience, because I'm one of those smokers who hasn't ever made the attempt to give up. Good luck to you. I know you can do it. Forget about the times you fail, just concentrate on all the ciggarets you haven't smoked since you gave up.

tell yourself whenever you get that urge to smoke, or when you see people smoking, that if i just get through today i will be a better more focused, happier, and stronger person tomorrow.

everyone knows smoking is bad for you. it kills you. so many people smoke. its easy to smoke. only a select few can say no. you choose who you want to be.
