This may be a stupid question to ask but should i cut my hair or no?

I have been going through some changes as far as my confidence level and decided that I need to start doing more for myself as far as what makes me feel good. I dyed my hair this reddish brown color and im so in love, i was dedicated to the idea of cutting my hair like Rihanna short on the sides mohawk and now im not so sure! My mil wants me to cut my hair I guess because she sees me as needing to do things for myself too but im just unsure because I know its hard to keep up the style and my hair has grown so much! I'm wanting to try new styles with my long hair but with the short hair its automatically styled and i wont have to do much. I feel beautiful both ways but im just stuck on the decisions

Tisha-1 agony auntTry shorter hair without the shaved side thing; that's a pretty dramatic look and you need the right shape of face. Also, if it doesn't work, it'll take longer to grow out.

Hair grows back, why not give it a try? You may regret it but it'll only be for a few months. Just don't do anything too drastic for your first short cut.

At your age, I had VERY short hair on the sides and back and just a bit longer on the top. I looked pretty cute when I look back on the pictures. The only thing was that I needed to wear earrings and makeup not to look too boyish.

I loved how easy it was to take care of, that was a great bonus.

Do what you want with your hair, after all, it does grow back!

Guys generally prefer hair longer on a girl.

Appreciate including specifics in heading.

In my circles, "To cut or not to cut?" is question generally faced by parents of newborn males.

My parents decided I'd probably rather not ever have to decide for myself.

In your case, agree with my parents decision but for different reasons. If you're unhappy with the result, then an always grow it back, an option unavailable to me. Fortunately they didn't take too much off the top, and personally I think short bob works much better for me than long and flowing would have.

Relevant to your specific area of concern, now is time to experiment with new and different styles, see what works (and also what doesn't). At your age, you can get away with just about anything without worrying if it's (dreaded phrase) "age appropriate." People my age wouldn't know if you believed you looked good or not, we'd just think you look ridiculous. As you get older you'll settle on a particular style and length with occasional tweaks and updates to stay current.

Hair is adaptable to all trends and ages (unlike tattoos and piercings, in twenty years there are going to be a lot

of uggggly middle-aged freak shows reduced to delivering pizza for a living), keep in mind that in ten years you'll be roaring at pictures of yourself today, whatever style you choose to wear, even you won't remember if it was good or bad. (Thank God I was too old for a mullet).

Different styles bring out certain features, you never know how flattering a style is on you until you try it.

As a guy who had shoulder length hair as a 1970's, I followed female dictate: I went shorter as I grew older, then-fashionable long and flowing (the girls in my class hated me because I had naturally straight hair while

they all had to iron theirs) gradually evolved to current classic crew cut. In other areas, classic cut has never gone out of style, only part of me that hasn't noticably changed appearance due to weight gain or sagging or wrinkles.

MissTellAll agony auntAs far as cutting hair goes, I have had my experiences with regretting haircuts.

That being said, hair grows back! If you have the face shape to pull it off, then do it. You'll feel bright, new, and totally confident afterward.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (20 July 2012):

instead of going for a dramatic change, just cut it shorter, if you have waist length hair go for a bob, then it's easier to grow it back if you don't think it suits you, instead of let's say go for a pixie, I had long brown hair, then cut it in layers, later dyed it every possible shade of red, until I got bored and cut it in an angled bob, then dyed it brown again, and now I'm growing it out, got sick of it.. yesterday I was so bored I dip dyed the ends pink. I know a bit about hair change and now I don't cut the hair so drastically without thinking it through, I have to agree with you I've seen people who had side shaved hairstyles and if you get sick of it, while it's growing back it looks strange..., I think the same can be said about Mohawk, you also have to think, does your job require you to look a certain way?

if you're still certain you should change just go for it, you're young so it's now or never!
