In the next few months I'm being made redundant and I've been seriously thinking about trying for a 12 month visa for america(florida to be exact). My question is more about my son- will I be able to take him with me and teporarily put him in school there and still come back to his original school here? I only intend to go for 3 months(my son is 6). Also could anybody advise me as to whether I would need a job lined up in the us before gaining a working visa or could I go over and find work once I'm there? I'd love some advice from people who have done this sort of thing and how they have gone about it all ie finding a place to stay etcThanks so much for your help x Reply to this Question Share |

I agree with CaringGuy talk to the Embassy.
3 month seem like a waste of time though (IMHO) Considering all the hoops you will have to go thought with medical insurance, school, job, place to stay and so forth.

The best advice I can give is that you speak to the American Embassy in London.

I would say though that you will find this very, very hard. Usually to get a work visa, you have to have something lined up and that can be difficult because of american employment laws (they have to put Americans first). If you get any other visa, you won't be able to work. Also, I'm not sure about whether your son will be able to get into a school. And you don't mention whether you're a single parent or not, but if you are you might have difficulty taking your child out.
I don't want to entirely put you off, but this might be something that you'll find very hard to do.
