Things are starting to fade, what can I do?

A male United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My girlfriend and I have been dating for 9 months now and i can't help but feel as if things are starting to fade. Well before I met her i really liked this other girl who is my best female friend aside from my girlfriend. About a month ago I told her that i liked her and she said she didn't want to ruin what i had with my girlfriend and that she didn't feel that way about me.

The thing was that she didn't sound like she meant what she said. Since then we are still really great friends and talk and hang out on a regular basis. She posts messages on myspace saying that she is thinking about someone and we talk about the type of guy she would want and she said that if there was a SINGLE guy like that at the school then she would date him.

So my questions are these, Am i over thinking things? If not what should i do? (keep in mind the relationship im in has really faded)

A male reader, anonymous, writes (12 May 2008):

I think youve decided you want the friend.

The thing is to break up with your girlfriend before you start anything with another girl. This is a lesson for life, because although the other person may be hurt you do not damage their trust. This means they stand a good chance of having a successful relationship in the future.

Give it 3 or 4 months before you get someone new.

Hope this helps
