My doctor quite happily removed mine and I'd only had mine in for less than a year.
It does state on the leaflet I got about forms of contraception that it lasts for 3 years but it can be removed earlier and I don't see any reason why they would refuse to do so, its your body and if you're not happy with it or you want to have a baby then you have every right to have it removed.
