They seem to aid a good nights sleep. And acupuncture might help, ive been sleeping alot better since ive started having it.

Insomnia is a very serious issue. Have you been evaluated in a sleep lab? Have you been evaluated by a TEAM of physicians including a psychiatrist, ENT doc, cardiologist, pulmonologist, and neurologist? What exactly is the "hereditary sleep disorder" your family suffers from? There are very specific treatments for certain sleep disorders. Have you tried melatonin? The most important thing is to get up at the same time every day and get 15-30" of direct sunlight early in the morning. Good luck!

I have had atrocious sleep most of my life.
See a doctor if you want, ... you must be already to be getting sleeping pills, ..but the only thing I found gave me some relief was a Natropath.
As well as some sort of homeopathic remedy that I had to put a few drops of under my tongue at night, I had a few sessions getting my lymphatic system drained (they manipulate all the lymph glands manually) and went from a lifetime of sleepless nights, 3-4 hours min to even get to sleep no matter how tired I was, to actually falling asleep on the table/bed in the Natropaths office in broad daylight.
The effect lasted about 2-3 years slowly diminishing in time, ..but I really should go for another treatment course coz I am back to the 2-3 hours at 5 in the morning b.s again.
Anyway, I highly recommend some alternative type avenues to loading up on chemical pills that have lost their effect anyway.

it is worth seeing a doctor, as im sure since you have had it since you were 12 youve tried all the usual routes. I personally have had a tough time sleeping for about 6 months but mine is related to routine (or lack of) and a major stress and life change, if there is nothing to explain yours then i would seek a more caring doctor, especially if its got to the point where your health is so severly affected!
Good luck!
