Seeing as how all my friends have been guys for years this issue has come up a lot for me. The thing is, you shouldn't have to choose between a real friend and a potential relationship with someone who may or not work out. If he can't respect your friendship than those are his insecurities and not your problem. If he has a problem with that, you probably don't want a relationship with this boy. If he truly doesn't have a problem with it, than cool, hell, maybe you, your new boy and your best friend could do some stuff together sometimes. Just a thought.

i have a male bestfriend too, i explain to boyfriends the situation but only if they ask! at the end of the day you know that nothing is going on with you and your friend and this will shine through in the attitude you have and the differences in how you speak to your crush and your best friend! keep me updated. x
