If you're really broken up, then why stay on it?
If you want to stop, just stop taking the pill. You don't have to finish the pack, but your period will be "off" for a few months. If you stop mid-pack it's more likely to throw off when your period is.
For next time talk to your doctor about other pills and/or alternative methods.

If you are on oral birth control and the only reason you were taking it was so you didn't get pregnant by your now ex-boyfriend, then you can go ahead and just stop taking the pills. It is safe to discontinue use of oral birth control pills when they are only taken for contraceptive purposes. The main risk would be pregnancy, as when women miss pills on accident. If you're not having sex, though, that obviously can't happen.
You may want to continue taking pills through the end of your cycle, however. If you have recently had sex with your ex, you could have live sperm inside you which could in theory fertilize an egg.
However, as Fatherly Advice pointed out this is really a medical question. It certainly would not hurt to talk to your MD, particularly since you are experiencing adverse side effects.
Best of luck!

Really a medical question,
If you are having that much trouble with side effects you should have already talked to your doctor about changing brand or type of birth control. They can find one that will suit you. How you stop depends on what you are using.
