Should I cut my losses and run?

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I kissed an old friend a few months ago and since then we've been meeting up whenever he is passing through my city. He said that he wanted us to have a relationship, to be a couple, and I said that we would talk about it the next time we saw each other. But until he got back, he was really bad at keeping in contact with me. I would email him back and he wouldn't reply for a week. When I saw him recently in person, he said that he wanted to start seeing each other and I said that I didn't see how he could be interested in having a relationship when he didn't seem interested in keeping in contact. He said that he was just really bad at keeping in contact with people.

I believe that it's how people treat you that matters and not what they say, that speaks volumes. He doesn't seem interested in me, never asks me any questions, and since I told him that it annoyed me that he doesn't keep in touch, he hasn't made the effort to keep in touch.

I really like him but I'm thinking that I should maybe stop it now and stop sleeping with him. I don't like one night stands for the reason that it doesn't feel very nice to never hear from someone again afterwards. He is an old friend, I care about him and it feels even worse when he doesn't get in touch after we've slept together. It's heartbreaking. Should I cut my losses and run?
