once people talked about me behind my back i ignored it and forgot about it , even though everyone tld me to confront them , but i didnt
after a while i kept hearing that they are saying bad things and i got really upset and cofronted them in really bad way which made a big problem ,
its ok if you forget about it that's called forgiving which is a really great thing but if they hurt your feeling really bad you can tell them if you feel like it but tell them in a gentle way that doesnt lead to a big problem ,
just tell them that they hurt you and you wouldnt do that to them , and if they are really good friends they will realize that they hurt you and make it up to you

I know I had a few friends that would say stuff about me, I though they didn't like me, but realized that if that were true, I wouldn't have been in there circle of friends that talked and did things together.
No matter the age, we humans have a habit to tease one another, especially if someone says something that fits a line we've heard, especially the younger we are. Were so impressionable at a young age.
