A female Canada age 51-59, anonymous writes:

I've been friends with this guy for nearly two years, we work together. after about 3 months of working together, we started getting into a very intense relationship - all by email and phone as i work as a consultant in a different city. This went on for about 3 months, daily phone calls, and texts and emails all day long, evenings and weekends etc. We finally got the chance to meet, alone, and after spending all day and evening together, we went back to the hotel, and talked until 3 in the morning. He said then that he didn't think we should have sex, that he wanted to wait until the timing was right (i was in the middle of splitting up with my husband). we kept talking daily, and saw each other every few months after that thru work. I finally quit my job, and he quit 3 days after me. He immediately found a new company, and right away got me hired on as well. in the meantime, its still been daily communication, 7 days a week and we are truly best friends. Problem is i'm in love with him, and he knows it. I now want to quit my job because i'm afraid that i am too emotionally attached to him. I told him that i wanted to do this, and he said no. i saw him about a week ago (we live in different cities, about 600 miles apart) for work again. Since that time, he's started making comments like "i will help you, will always back you up in any situation, just don't quit". I told him today that I really felt i needed to leave because i was scared of the emotions i had and didn't want to get hurt. I do have another job offer and he knows it.

His response to me was that "i will look after you and that's ALL you need to know. Period". what does that mean? he had a very bad divorce about 5 years ago, and i know he's very reluctant to be involved with anyone, although he was very very open for about six months, but in the past six he appears to be hiding his feelings. What does that mean??? i know he doesn't want me to leave my job (we work very closely together), but i also don't think he's ready to be totally honest about how he feels about me. Should i just be patient and wait it out?
