Should I ask out my coworker? If he turns me down I'll still have to work with him every day!

A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

This guy recently started working at my job. While he was training I noticed him watching me when I'd walk by. I few days later he yelled to me and asked me which department I worked in. I answered and introduced myself...he introduced himself as well. In the days and weeks following, he always yells to me to get my attention, interjects in conversations that I am in with other co-workers, jokes around with me, pokes fun at me and compliments me. He is a very personalbe and outgoing guy, but I haven't noticed him act this way with other women, but again he does talk and joke with everyone.

Last week his friend came to my desk from the other side of the building and asked for a pencil (the supply closet is right behind her desk)...but that was it (I felt like she wanted to ask me something).

The next day she told my friend that she grew up with the man in question and that he was "asking about me". She said to my friend, "What's up with your girl Gina (me), my fried George (him) was asking about her (me)?" I'm not sure how my friend answered.

Just a few days ago, my friend told the girl that I think he's cute and would be interested in talking to him after work. He was told the same day and seemed to try to leave with me at the end of my work day. I got nervous and went back to my desk, so he stalled for a while and then went back to work when he saw that I wasn't leaving right then.

I wore a hair accessory the next day, which he said looked nice and told me to come closer and let him see it...again he complimented me. Before he found out that I liked him, we had a conversation about my picture being up on the website @ work and he commented on it being there and said that...he printed out the picture, put it on his window and wrote..."maximum security...keep away" under it. I took that to me that he thinks I'm very guarded.

He seems to be a very condifent guy who would ask for my number and let me know that he was digging me if he was interested, so I'm wondering why he hasn't asked.

Bottom line, I am interested, he knows and hasn't given me his number or asked for mine. Not sure if he's interested in me, the chase of me or just acts this way with everyone (which again...I haven't noticed him doing). He's really cute and confident.

Not sure if I should give him my phone number or ignore the situation. Oh yeah, he told my friend that he isn't married, doesn't have a girlfriend or any children. What is the deal with this guy? If he turns me down, I still have to work around him everyday.
