You can get all the info you need from elsewhere, and you can still keep the communication up with your mom about other things. She might act like its awkward or be shocked, but she probably would really appreciate you letting her in. Why not ask her some other questions you might have, or just start a discussion about something a little less intense than masturbation techniques!

 It depends on your relationship with her. If you are very close and you feel you can confide in her about that sort of thing then sure. If i were a mother i'd feel very honoured that my daughter would trust me enough to talk to about that. On the other hand if you are unsure about her reaction, that she may be angry or unsupportive you can get lots of information on the internet about it.
