When i get back from school, or on the weekends if i'm not doing something to fill like every minute then my parents complain about me not being 'constructive', just so that i can hopefully confirm, does everybody have free time to do as they please or are you busy every second? what kind of things is it normal for teenagers to spend time doing?

A reader, anonymous, writes (28 January 2009):

nope, not every moment has to be spent doing something.

i'm 16, go to college 3 days a week, do youth theatre wednesday nights and cheerleading thursdays, i'm also looking for a job but thats because i want to. rest of the time i just watch some tv, read, listen to music or go to a friends house - whatever i feel like doing really.

i'm free to do what i want to really... hope this helps :) xx

TasteofIndia agony auntHi there,

Nahhhh, you don't need to fill every moment with business! Sometimes it's nice to just have time to yourself, to do you own thing whether that be writing, listening to music, taking a walk, hanging out with your friends, whatever you want. It is important that you don't waste ALL of your time, definitely fill some time with things like lessons, clubs, classes, volunteer work, but you deserve some time to yourself.

Why not try to make a schedule with your parents... "listen Mom, Dad. I'm going to fill up my time, but I'm going to chill out from 4-5 every day and Sundays". Something like that so that your down time is truly YOUR down time.

Good luck!
