The problem might not be the amount but rather the timing. Maybe he feels neglected while your spending time with friends... The logic is you haven't seen friends for ages and see him every day. But you might faff over him while your alone, but he needs to feel important in your life while your visiting friends, even when your away on a business trip, quick call inthe mornings saying goodmorning or unexpected lunch call... Work at it, play with it
