A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *Raa writes:

my friend is getting on my nerves at school because whenever we are around everyone else she is nasty, selfish and hurts everyone's feelings. She acts like she's the queen of the world and steals everyone else's attention when they need it the most. what makes it even worse, is that the boy i have a crush on - fancies her and has completely changed. she also has stolen my bestfriend 3 times - and she seems to be stealing everything away from me.

she's really annoying and upsetting me.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (19 July 2009):

Heya,

maybe the reason that she is trying to steal everything away from you, is because she is jealous of everything that you have. I think you just have to see it for what it is, she is a bit insecure and needs everyone elses attention on her to reassure her that they like her. Guys like confident girls, which is probably the attraction he has to her, and its a horrible thing to say, but the more a girl acts like the Queen Bee, the more people believe it themselves.

I have been through this situation before, and there are one of two things that you can do. One is to accept that she is an insecure person, and in a way see what she is doing in a way to combat that. Or you can put and end to it. Nicely tell her that what she is doing is upsetting you, but remember do it nicely because you dont want to hurt her feelings at all. If she refuses to compromise, then find some new friends that wont treat you like that, and ones that will respect other people.

Good Luck!
