After a week and a half however, she took me on a great date to lunch and bowling, then as i was walking her to her door she turned to me and broke up with me, on the grounds that she was having problems with a previous relationship that went sour. I really like her, and she just about cut me in two. She wants to be friends, and i know i'll be able to survive being friends, but i really want her back. Now i dont really know where that leave us, and her ex is my (now former) friend. I really don't know what to do any more, i'm so lost and without a compass or a sense of direction.

Give her some time and continue to be her friend.Keep your communications lines open and see how it will develop.
She may need more time to solve her problems with the ex.It could also be possible that she is not interested . I hope it is not the case.

My best advice is to talk to her about, express how you feel to her so she really knows. Then you can talk and really see where you're positioned and if you guys can be together once again. good luck
