A male reader, Uncle Trev United Kingdom +, writes (22 December 2007):

This is quite difficult for you - I can see this but at the end of the day she is choosing to hang around these people of her own free will. I understand that you either told her this stuff away from her so called friends or you mentioned this to her on line but regardless of the way you told her I gather it was in privacy. If this is the case by her reply to you she has made it perfectly clear that she has chosen her friends over you.

It is true that people in life become the books they read and the people they hang aropund with. In short - she is hanging around with these chavs and wasters and by what you have said she is becomming more like them on a daily basis.

As for her being out of your league - you are right - she is probably a good few leagues below you so you are out of her league too. Don't believe anybody is out of your league as unless you ask them out you will never find out if they want to go out with you or not.

To be honest with you I wouldn't have thought that if she is choosing to hang around with the likes of associates like this that she would be anything like a type of girl you are looking for.

If I were in your shoes I would move on and wait for another girl to come along that is better all around. I no doubt that you will not have to wait long to find a really nice girl that is not dependant upon a bunch of chavs to establish their persona.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (22 December 2007):

You love her. Don't let her go. The thing is that she got mad because she took your criticism of her friends as condescending and kind of controlling. I mean what you think of her friends is a reflection on her. So if you think her friends suck, in her mind you are kind of saying that she sucks too. Otherwise, why would she be hanging out with them??

Like imagine if a girl said that about your friends?? You'd probably think she was an ass. You know?

You just have to choose your words more carefully. Even though I know you meant well (I think?), I can see how it would come across as totally condescending and insulting.

I would just apologize to her and tell her that you realise now that it is none of your business and that you are sorry you put down her friends. But really do try to genuinely understand why it was "wrong." Good luck.

peaches83 agony auntBy telling her that she is doing something wrong has got her back up. 99% of kids and young adults today are chavs adn vandals and that is something you either get use to or walk away. Think to yourself on whether you want this girl enough.

My advice would be that she is best left to her devices and for you to get someone that deserves you. She doesnt sound like she does.
