Question - (8 August 2006) 3 Answers - (Newest, 8 August 2006)
A female , anonymous writes:

Ok, so i've been sexually active for about 3 weeks now, and i've been having LOTS of sex. I have a couple of questions that i hope can be answered, sorry if i seem naive or if some of it's a bit graphic.

Ok, so i'm on the pill but we used condoms to be extra safe. He gets regular STD checks and says he's clean, but i insisted on trying it without a condom anyway just for comparison. Why does it hurt to use a condom but doesn't if we don't use one? We use pleanty of lubrication so in shouldn't cause too much extra friction. My cousin says she has the same problem.

Also, how many times can a guy usually have sex? My bf will be over for the whole day and on average he can just about cope with us having sex three times. Is this average?

One last thing...what causes a guy to lose his erection? My bf has this problem quite often. I assumed it has something to do with his history of class A drugs (which he quit about a year ago before i met him), or is it linked to the question before?

Thanks for your help.

Most STD tests take loner then a few weeks. Some of the test results take up to six months. Trust in yourself and rely on yourself to protect and care for your own person.

Talk to your family doctor to address your concers; your family doc is more able to suggest other contraceptive/protection from std's and pregnancy.

I have to agree with Dr. Psyche on the diet and lifestyle habits; if those change and he consults a doctor...improvement may be noticed.

Your boyfriend sounds average. IF he has concerns, again, he may want to vistit his family practicioner.

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (8 August 2006):

DrPsych agony auntIt could be painful to use condoms because you are allergic to latex rubber (which is what they are usually made of), but if this is the case you can get alternative condoms for the allergic. Make sure you are using water-based not oil-based lubricant because oil erodes rubber condoms (hence a STD risk). The number of times men can have sex is dependent on all sorts of factors such as age, health, inclination etc. Your boyfriend sounds within normal range but you maybe sore if you are having sex very often. You may not have noticed when you had condom-free sex because you were 'distracted' but it could be a possibility. Lots of things cause erection failure - diet, booze, smoking and lifestyle things like that along with performance anxiety and fatigue. His drug history could be a factor and if he is really worried he should see his doctor. However he may well wish to clean up his lifestyle - diet, vitamin supplements (fish oils in particular) and laying off the alcohol are all supposed to help!
