This isn't a relationship question obviously but with all the different types of people that are on this site maybe there is someone who will be able to answer me.

I'm in the process of claiming bankruptcy. My question is this. If I don't claim bk and let my debts go to charge off status and they sit on my record for seven years and then disappear? And also I've read that if they sell the debt to another agency that the seven years will start over. Is that true? I could talk to an attorney but they will most likely just say I should pay for their services

Laura1318 agony auntEven though a debt may no longer legally appear on your credit report after 7 years, you could still be sued for the debt if the statute of limitations for your debt in your state is not up.

If the debt is gone from your credit report AND the statute of limitations is up on this debt, you're home free!
