reader, anonymous, writes (25 June 2008): This is verified as being by the original poster of the questionas ive said before i do not have a problem with either profession,why does everyone think this? if pornstars and prostitutes are NOT forced into it then i DONT have a problem,i was just asking what peoples opinions were on the subject.i do think that the question has been completley blown out of proportion.i only asked tis question because i read a lot of stuff on this ste about people criticising both of the profesions,as i have stated i dont think theres anything wrong with either profession.it is only wrong if people are forced into it.this does happen in both professions sometimes.also when i was talking about max hardcore i DIDNT mean the MAINSTREAM porn industry i meant the EXTREME porn which i personally dont like as they appear to treat women like crap.one of max hardcores actresses burst into tears during one of the shoots that simply is unaceptable and doesnt happen with mainstream porn as they treat them wuith respect,people like ron jeremy and the like are harmless and dont do anything wrong

This is a completely idle question of the kind that can be found on any bulletin board or forum ("Which is worse, Jennifer Lopez or Britney Spears?"). This kind of question really has no place on a board like this.

The question presupposes that there is something wrong with the sex industry and that working in films and magazines, or working as a prostitute is always degrading. Visit your local library and get better information on what it's like working in the sex industry from the people who know it best.
I'm not sure if we've ever had a porn star on this board but we have had prostitutes, (http://www.dearcupid.org/question/does-anyone-know-what-being-a-prostitute-is) so be carefull with your assumptions, judgements and hurtfull words, these people are human beings too and deserving of our respect.

I think this is a frivolous question and the poster is talking through his hat. You know nothing about these industries or what people do in them, and neither do some of the aunts shooting off their opinions.
You're starting from the proposition that these are both sexually degrading occupations for women, and then you are asking us "which is more degrading"? What a childish question!

Sex is an act of love and reverence, when it is treated how it should be; and if it's downgraded to a transaction, a paid performance or masturbation, it does harden your soul and make it into simply an animal act. If you aren't involved with the person that you are with, then, for the most part, it's not what most thinking people would choose for themselves, NOT, certainly, as a first option. The fact that it IS a PAID performance, either way, and that it isn't exactly sleeping with your lover, which makes most people a bit uneasy.
That will never stop it from being the world's oldest profession, but it's probably close to the truth.

First thing is that many, maybe most, men would not want to marry either a prostute or a porn actress. Of course, the men in the porn industry would think nothing of marrying one of the actresses.
If you are a porn actress then you have to realize that nearly everyone who you know will know what you do and will know what sex you have done on screen and will have watched you do it. Your parents and relatives will likely find out. Will that be a problem for you. Guys who you meet may think that you are an easy lay and treat you that way. I know that is their eroneous thinking, but you will still have to put up with it. The up side of the porn actress job is the safety and the understanding of the people who you work with. You will likely not be treated like a whore. You will be treated like any woman in any job. You will be respected by the people who you work with.
As I see it, there are 3 basic levels of prostution. The first is street prostute. It is dangerous and you will be treated like trash. The second level is one who works in a legal brothel. I don't know if there are any legal ones in the UK, but they are legal in the US in the state of Nevada. This is a big step up from working the street, but it has its drawbacks. There is safety, but I have read that the women have little choice whether they want to have sex with any guy. Unless there is some real problem with the guy, they have to have sex with him if they want to keep their job and work in any of the brothels again. The third level is callgirl or whatever name that goes by. Here, I believe that the clients are mostly by reference and the woman only has to have sex with whoever she wants. However, I would assume that the safety is somewhat less than the brothels.
I have no experience with any of this, except for watching porn, so these are just my opinions of what the downside would be. I know that there are many porn actresses who are very intellegent and good women. I have read Asia Carrera's story and I think that she is a very nice and intellegent woman. She seems like a woman like any other woman that most men would be happy to have as a wife. However, I still think that her job would prevent many men from wanting her as a wife.

 I think the best one to answer this is someone who has been in both industries. And really, what does it matter to you? Some people need to do what they can to survive in this world. I for one am not going to put anyone on the 'degradation' scale.
Some girls/women are forced into prostitution; I do not presume to judge them.

Some people take advantage of them and force them into things that they are not comfortable with doing. They do not have anyone with a camera watching to make sure that they are not hurt. Prostitutes who are not in brothels can easily end up murdered or raped (I know this may sound strang in this profession... But if the customer refused to pay or forced themselves upon a prostitute with something they were not comforyable with doing, ie. without a condom or anal, then that would be rape) as they have no one to protect them.
This is what I meant by dangerous positions.

 i would say prostitution is worse as most women who do this have no choice as they are in desperate need of money giving them no choice but to have sex for money.
porn stars have choices whether to or not to do it. most people want to do it as a hobby, or just for getting fame or even to make loads of money. also most porn stars use condoms so they are not likely to be pregnent and are in a safer environment so they wont get taken advantage of and forced into things they dont wish to do.

The people who work in this section of employment shouldn't be regarded as someone who should be "ashamed" of what they're doing, since its their own choice. But between those two types of "jobs", the porn star would win over prostitution (in my opinion). The reasons are because a porn star wins way more money than a prostitute, they're more protected sexually (as in, would less likely have STDs of any type) and are more generally respected by the public.

Porn stars are often doing it because they want fame or lots money and they want to be in "big lights".
Prostitutes often have no choice in the matter and need the money desperately.
But porn stars know that they are safe as they get tested all the time.
Where as Protitutes do not know who they are with and can be picking up different diseases. They are also putting themselves in a extremely dangerous position (no pun intended)!! :P
I personally don't agree with either.
