I have a lot of sisters and so I know that there is huge variety when it comes to periods in general.Brown to red is entirely normal. The brown (and sometimes darker) blood is just older blood. It's either been in there since your last period or you've had your period a little late. And since you seem pretty sure that your not pregnant, I'm almost certain its just the birth control which are changing any of your normal symptoms. Many people get cramps and I for one get very teary and emotional on my period. From my own experience I have also jumped about a bit in terms of when my period begins/ends. Sometimes its a week early, sometimes a week late, and sometimes it lasts for what seems to be a lifetime! Of course thats the minority of the time, but it does happen.Cramps, tiredness, emotions etc. Its all what happens during menstruation. If this isn't normal for you, I would suggest you've been off lucky. :)In any case, keep us informed if your still worrying or if there's anything else you think we should know.

Birth control will change your cycle. That's its point. Your period will be different on the pill. The bleeding women experience on the pill isn't actually a true period, it's calling withdrawal bleeding and is actually a separate function. I wouldn't worry. It takes a few months to get used to the pill.
