on my pill pack i dodn't start my period until i've almost finished the sugar pills.
actually, if you miss one pill, the pack normally says just to make sure you don't miss another. if you miss a few in a row then normally you have to use back up contraception (ie condoms) for about a week to make sure there are no accidents.
however, if you were sick (ie throwing up or diarrhea), then the pill may become ineffective, and it could be a problem. i'd give it a few more days, before worrying about your period, however it might just be easier to get a pregnancy test to clear your mind!
good luck

It doesn't matter if you didn't have sex on the very day you missed your pill, if you do something to lower effectiveness it lasts all month. Not one day. Some pills will lose effectiveness if you miss even one, so check with the booklet or the pill's website. Also, the pill is meant to completely mess up your cycle. So missing a period may or may not mean you're pregnant. It's normal to occasionally skip one while on the pill. I might take a pregnancy test though if it doesn't come by the time you should start the next pack. I find it helps to remember to take the pill if you set a phone alarm at the same time every day. Also to not take it in the morning, cause who wants to wake up early on weekends to take a pill?

reader, anonymous, writes (22 July 2010): It takes three months of taking birth control for the pill to take full effect of its regulatory function of your period. It could be that the pills aren't yet functioning with your body. As a part of that, it takes more than a single birth control pill to protect against pregnancy. Some say it takes a full week of pills to be at full strength, others say a full month. When you missed the pill, did you take it the next day along with the one for that day as well? You said you didn't have sex at that time, which is good. Missing a single pill but making up for it properly increases the chance of you getting pregnant, but like I said, it could be your body still adjusting.Furthermore, stress can cause your hormones to change, so you might not be starting your period since you're so anxious. That said, although you are on birth control, you should still use a secondary form of protection, like a condom, because there are instances in which women were on the pill, taking it religiously, and still got pregnant. If you're worried, take a test in about two weeks.

Yes if you miss one pill you are more pron to becoming pregnant. If you read the instructions it says right on there. Most likely it sound like you could be... Get a test.
