writes: I started using the contraceptive pill for the first time last month. I was taking them for 10 days (So my body could get used to them) before having sex with my boyfriend - he used a condom but didn't ejaculate. My problem is that, since then, my breasts have been really sore and I've been feeling sick a lot. Now I'm getting concerned. Could it just be that the pill I'm on isn't right for my body? Or could it be something else? I know I can't know for sure without seeing my GP but I just need a few answers. And I'm still taking my pill, if that's any help. Thanks. X

The pill I use is a low dosage easy going pill, lol, but even that was causing symptoms after years of being on it (not all the time, but every now and then between withdrawal periods). Doctor suggested taking them continuously, and symptoms stopped. Something about not giving hormones a chance to dip before starting the new package. Of course, talk to your doctor before doing anything about it. Good luck!

It's the pill; the first month is usually the worst, but it could take you up to 3 months to adjust to it. Breast tenderness/pain, breast growth, nausea, dizziness, loss of libido, etc.; these are all side effects of the pill. If you feel like you're not happy with the side effects after 3 months, you should consider switching to a different pill. Keep in mind that some side effects, like loss of libido, which are associated with all hormonal forms of birth control, may be be permanent, even when you get off your birth control.

I'm not sure what pill you're on, but a lot of them require you take them for a month before they are actually effective against pregnancy. But since you used a condom, you should be protected from that anyway.
The sickness is very likely caused by the pill. The first time I went on the pill, I felt like throwing up in the morning for about a month or more. The change in hormones made me feel really sick. That unfortunately happens, and if you can still function, you should try to stay on it for longer (generally 3 months I believe is what doctors say). The side effects should lessen and disappear (they did for me). If you do stop and then want to start the pill again, remember what pill you were on, and mention that it did cause you to be ill, and the doctor can try a different type and possibly lower dosage.
