Last time I visited DearCupid, I was a lonely teenager of about seventeen: never had a girlfriend, and moaning pathetically about it to all who would listen. Terrified that I was destined to be alone forever.

Now, I sit and type to you as a twenty-year-old, in a relationship of one-year-eleven-months-next-week, with an amazing girl with whom I am quite besotted.

Not half an hour ago, over the phone, we enacted the entire exchange between King Henry and Katharine (Shakespeare's "King Henry The Fifth," Act V Scene II). It was fantastic - and fortunate that she speaks French well.

Not quite sure of the point of this "article" - I suppose I just had to tell someone how happy I am right now.

But anyone out there feeling especially lonely right now, take it from me: it'll happen. I remember how crap I felt back then - and I can honestly say now, it was worth the wait.

Whether you come together by chance, a friend, a film, a club, or even Shakespeare, I can pretty much guarantee that you'll find someone. And when you do, the long loneliness will fade into blurred, insignificant memory next to the joy of being with this person, this miracle, who walked suddenly into your life.

Chin-up, dear readers!

"A good leg will fall, a straight back will stoop... a fair face will wither, a full eye will wax hollow. But a good heart is the sun and the moon; or rather, the sun, and not the moon - for it shines bright and never changes, but keeps his course truly."

A female reader, Abella United States +, writes (11 October 2012):

Abella agony auntWhat a lovely article

I am so glad you have seen that "even this will pass" and that life can get better.

Patience and a Lack of impatience can really ensure you reach chosen goals.

And some say one way to reach success with any goal is to 'Never give up'.

While others say, "how am I supposed to do that?" and the answer is always "you take one step in the right direction and then another step and then another step. One at a time. And Never give up until you reach your goal. And you will if you never give up on your goals

Sometimes it takes a giant leap of faith (choosing to study a particular field or choosing to try working in new area)

Often, when we are younger we can only see a short time ahead. But fast forward to five or ten or more years ahead and we can look back and think, 'Yes, I am glad I made those plans so long ago'

Other times the outcomes can be so much more positive than anything we could ever have envisaged that how things turn out (for the better) is just amazing.

Though real life will always have set backs. The actual set back is not the issue. It is how we choose to look at that set back. It is about how well we adapt to the pressures. Being flexible instead of rigid helps.

I can recall as a child I set a goal for myself, that I would never live in a home (as an adult) where people yelled at each other, threw things, were nasty to each other and were drunk almost all the time. I wanted a peaceful life as an adult. Not like the life my parents lived.

Goals are very powerful. Especially if written on a goal chart.A chart that is illustrated. A Chart you have to see every day. With some Very short term goals, plus other goals that are more in the future. Some so in the future that they seem fanciful. And very satisfying when one reaches a goal. That's when you add a gold star against a goal met. Five years later the Goal chart should be a sea of gold stars. With some re-written goals with a longer goal date. Being adaptable and Flexible is good too.

I am so happy for you, that things are on a path towards a very bright future. And I do hope you never lose your passion for your chosen career.

No one says it will be easy to get to goals you set for when you turn 25 and 30 and 35. But visualise those goals and think about those goals regularly and you will love where your life goes.

I wish you much professional and personal success in the future.

And you and your romantic partner sound like a delightful team.

Please come back to visit Dearcupid often as I am sure you will gain even more wisdom and insight from the amazing array of posts on this site.

Regards

Abella
