Not sure I want to go on another date but should I play it out?

Tagged as: Dating<< Previous question   Next question >>
Question - (19 August 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 19 August 2010)
A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I was somewhat interested in this guy, just enough to go on a second date.

It's just most of the stuff he says over the phone or through text makes me uncomfortable. He seems real sweet, but he's already using pet names and getting clingy. I agreed to go on a second date because the first one was a lot of fun. He was very different in person.

Afterwards there were several more texts mushy enough to make me cringe and finally one that made me snap (he insulted a project I am working on, though not intentionally). I don't want to go on that second date anymore.

Should I tell him I'm not interested now or just play it out and make it apparent there's no third date?

A male reader, The Realist Canada +, writes (19 August 2010):

The Realist agony auntIf you don't think there is any chance on a third date then I wouldn't even bother with the second one. He may become more clingy and then you just have a bad situation. Tell him over the phone as nicely as possible that you are not interested in a second date. If I put myself in his position I would not want to go on a date when there is no chance of anything happening in the future.
