A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 April 2009):

hi, just thought I would write in. I am in my forties and 3 years ago met the most gorgeous man.

I am not exactly what you would call pretty and I have a lot of what you might call quirky features. He's 6 foot two and I'm just under five foot. For the first two years, I just couldn't see what he saw in me and have challenged him constantly to prove how much he loves me (because I cannot believe that someone so good looking would want to go out with me).

He's earned his stripes and 3 years down the line we are still together. I have to watch as women drool as we walk by and when we went on holiday last year, it was even worse. The women in France were so open about it.

I now embrace this and thank my lucky stars every day, because not only is he soooo good looking, he's also romantic, a great cook, a great lover, intelligent - I could really wax lyrical about him all day. Even my mum goes slightly ga ga around him and she's in her seventies. What I am trying to say is, it took me until my forties to find the love of my life and I am truly blessed.

I went for many years without a relationship and was almost a confirmed spinster before I met him. I tried dating sites and all the rest of it, but fate stepped in and put us together.

To be honest, as I'm under five foot, I put on weight easily too, but he just smiles, gives me a cuddle and says he loves my curves regardless. And I think he has a penchant for the larger lady anyway. So, don't get hung up on this, make your own life, be a good person, then one day hopefully you will find the man of your dreams, like I did.

I want to let you know that "curvey" girls are exactly what some guys are into! Just because you are a plus size does not mean you can't dress nice and hold your head high. You have to project a friendly, happy, fun sort of vibe and you'll see how that changes how men see you. It's all in the attitude girl! I'm no size 8, more like 18 but have no issues with my man and he's hot, so you know you can do the same.

Maybe try tanning some, makes you feel better and if you want tone up a bit. Love yourself and so will others:)

Just remember your a beautiful lady and don't forget that attitude. Go get 'em or better yet let 'em come to you!
