Twirly agony auntHey There,

There are doctors you can go to where you don't need to have insurance, make some enquiries in your town.

I lived in America for 2 years and there were several doctor's surgeries where you go amd pay a small ammount like $15, which in the place I went to was only a suggested donation and not mandatory.

Id get to a doctor to put your mind at rest, and have some tests done for PCOS. It could also be stress, like some previous posters have suggested.

Good luck! x

I'm sure someone has told you this by now, but it could be PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome. I don't say this to scare you, just to get it checked out. I found this site because I haven't had a period in about 5 months, I'm not pregnant, but I'm not having any symptoms like you, but I'm going to the MD next week. Please, go see a doctor. There are free clinics around if you just look on the internet, a lot of doctors will cut you a break if they know you have a problem and no insurance, and no hospital can turn you away, and lots of them can provide financial aid. I had to go to the hospital a year ago, had no insurance, and my $3000 bill was reduced to $40 because of my need. Good luck and feel better!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (22 April 2007):

Hi there,

I am having similar problems at the mo. Was on the contraceptive combined pill for total of 6 years, came off Nov 2006, and no period since! I have had pregnancy tests etc and a pelvic scan which revealed I had one cyst on my left ovary as I was getting severe pain periodically in my left side very low down. Dr said not to worry as not 'abnormal' size. However they are now sending me for blood tests to check my hormone levels.

I would imagine if your pregnancy tests have come back negative, you could have cysts, however there are also other things that could be causing you the pain.the pill can also cause your periods to go strange once coming off them due to messing about with your hormones. I think you need to get some insurance and get yourself checked over to make sure you o.k.

one understanding girlie from England U.K.

I have also had no period for 6 months, and have had pains along the sides of my uterus, I have also taken pregnancy tests and all have came negative. When I started to look into things it could be I found this, secondary amenorrhea. It maybe something you want to look at, but just like the other it could be with lots of things the best thing is to go to your family doctor, hospital, or even your local health department would be helpful, they can do tests and see whats wrong. And most of the time when you go to a health department you can tell them you dont have much money and they can take down the price and even sometimes its free. But I hope you find out whats wrong, email me if you need any information or support, it helps when you have others beside you.

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (10 April 2007):

DrPsych agony auntYou could have polycystic ovaries as I do, and your symptoms suggest that - it affects up to 10% of women and is associated with weight gain, lack of (irregular) periods, stomach pains (from over-sized ovaries and cysts), male pattern hair, infertility. Whether it is this problem or not, you need medical care as no woman of reproductive age should go without a period for more than 6 months at a time without treatment. The reason is that you can develop a condition called endometrial hyperplasia which in plain english is a build up of the lining of the womb that usually comes out monthly as a period. By building up the lining which is full of cells ready to support a pregnancy you are at elevated risk of certain cancers. Put bluntly, you need to clean out the closet now and again! A doctor can give you a pill to have a period. To diagnose polycystic ovaries you need an ultrasound and blood tests. As you have an acute pain in your side you are surely entitled to go to your local emergency room and I am sure they would investigate your symptoms?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (10 April 2007):

It could be a hormome problem. It doesn't have to be something sincere, it could be just stress, physical or mental. And it is quite normal a your age that it is very much late. But 6 month is a little to much. So I would recomend you: Go to see the doctor. Don's think about money. If there is something wrong it could get worse and at the end it would you cost much more money for medicine or hospital or what ever. It's mayby chiper just seeing the doctor now. And also if there is something wrong, the docter can mayby still hely you now, but it will be difficult to help you in a year or so.
