I was wondering if I could have some advice on how to approach this girl that I have known for about nine years. She has asked me out before but have said no. Me and her have a banquet this Friday and was wondering if I should ask to dance with me and possibly ask her out. I want to ask her out but don't know how to go about it. I have been taking things slowly. We have also started to hold hands the odd time while walking.

Side facts:

We have been in the same school ever since grade one.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (28 April 2010):

If she's holding hands with you, chances are she still likes you. Ask her to dance - it's not a biggie. If you really want to take a leap of faith, ask her to go to the banquet WITH you, it will show you're serious and not just interested in fooling around.

The Realist agony auntAsk her to dance first and see how she reacts. Save asking her out til the end of the night but not right at the end when everyone is leaving. Just go up and start talking to her, she's interested already so it should flow smoothly. Dress up and be confident then everything should come easily. By the sounds of things she will probably be waiting for you to approach her so don't worry about it. Walk up say hi, how's it going, would you like to dance and then spend time with her.

Good luck and have fun with it.
