reader, anonymous, writes (29 October 2007): Me and my family would make fun of my brother if he got a g/f, it's not nasty but I guess it's something some families do and they like doing it to see you look uneasy. Just tell them, their get over taking the mick in time. Having a g/f nothing to be ashamed off

You sound a little like me. I was worried that my parents would react this way when I met a girl. But I can tell you from my experience; they couldn't have been more cool about it. They didn't crowd me, they didn't pry into our relationship much at all, and they certainly didn't laugh or joke (which, knowing my lot, came as a great surprise to me!)
I don't know you or your family, so I can only tell you what I know, and what I know is, I feared the same as you, and in the end, I was compeltely wrong. Maybe things will be the same for you too.
