However, she came back from doctors today and said they've changed the equipment for extra precision in finding any problems AND she then revealed how painful it was for her, she said the pain was absolutely unbareable and she even bled with it! I know mine doesn't have to start for a good few years, but i'm really worried - you have to get these done EVERY 3 years from the age of 21 and i'm absolutely terrified!is there any alternatives? or do i just have to face the agony... Hi there,
Pap Smears are uncomfortable, sure, but they're absolutely bearable. To make the experience a lot better, find a doctor that you like and make sure that he or she talks you through every step of the way. I find it's a lot easier for me if the doctors EXPLAIN what they're doing while they're doing it.
Don't worry, sweetness.

Hello anonymous,
Good grief. It is not that bad. Just talk with your doctor about it and I'm sure you'll feel better. And the threshold for pain is different for everyone anyway. What your mom considers painful will not necessarily hurt you. Keep that in mind. And if it does hurt, it's only for a second. You could also think about it this way - it's better than finding out that you have cancer at too late a stage to do anything about.
Take care.

hun it will be ok, ive been getting pap smears for 8 yrs now and they really never bothered me only time they did was when they had to scrap me, sometimes they hurt but only for a second, it all depends on the doctor and what they are doing so dont be afraid.
