My mom won't talk about my biological dad

i donot know who my biological dad is not even my tribe,am now 22yrs but i've never seen him or any relative from his side.i grew up with my mum and my step sis.when i was 10yrs old i asked my mum about who and where my dad would be and she told me my dad is still alive but stopped on that.right now am relating and i fear the day my boy friend will ask me about my dad and I do not know him,what should i do?.am not very free with my mum yet i believe she has first source information.the days i want to ask her we are not in good terms.advise me please.thanks
