I'm 14 now, and i know i shouldn't be on it now, but it's not what you think. I have horrible cramps to the point that i stay home from school-and i never stay home from school-and my flow isn't regular. I've had my period since the summer after 5th grade, and on both sides of the family it's been regular since the first year, and i'v heard that it helps with both. But my mom doesn't want to get birth control for me. Thanks!

If you have painful irregular periods, a doctor may prescribe a hormone medication to help regulate them. You can NOT get the pill without a prescription.
The best thing you can do, of you aren't already is keep track of your menstrual cycle on a calendar. You need to write down when you experience PMS symptoms like cramping, bloating, or migraines. You need to note how light or heavy your flow is while menstruating, how bad your cramping and other symptoms are, and the days you miss school because your period is just that painful.
After keeping track of your period like this for at least six months, you can bring the calendar to a doctor who will then determine whether medication would help best, or if you may need an ultrasound, blood work, or a physical exam to rule out any possible physical causes of your period problems.

14 is a tad too young, becuase you body is still developing and does not need an influx of artificial hormones when you're streaming with hormones anyway!
There are other ways:
See a gynecologist
Go to a pharmacy and get over the counter pain killers (stronger than off the shelf) I sometimes get bad pains, I find ibuprofen with codeine helps.
Exercise! I know around that time this is the last thing you want to be doing, but trust me, going for a 20 minute walk will do the WORLD of good!
Chocolate - chocolate encourages the release of endorphins, which is why it is so popular. It's a happy food. Although dont eat too much or you will end up fat and sick :-P
Good luck!

I agree that ibuprofen (motrin or aleve or advil) taken starting a few days before your period till the day the period starts or a day or two after will help with the cramps...

How old? The answer I would give to my daughter if she had asked me this question would have been: "Old enough so if the birth control fails to work, you will be in a possition to raise the child that you will bring to this world properly and be a great mom". Are you in this possition dear?

You need to see your doctor or even better a gynecologist. I agree the Pill is not the only fix for cramps. And for many 14 IS too young for it. Midol, Pemberin and something as simple as a Ibuprofen or a hot bottle. Also plenty of water and exercise can help too.
And no at 14 you can't get it without your parents consent or over the counter, they are prescription ONLY.

To take the birth control pill, which is a hormonally based contraceptive, you will need a prescription from a doctor. Instead of asking for birth control, ask for whatever will help your severe symptoms. Bring up this issue in your next doctor's appointment.
More information can be found here: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/info-for-teens/
For what it's worth, I had similar issues and found that simply taking Ibuprofen handled the cramps pretty well. But you have to discuss this with your health care provider.
Good luck!

how about instead of asking her for birth control you ask her to take you to the gynecologist for a check up and to make sure everything is ok and see if the doctor can give you something for your cramps since that's what you really want.

For that reason, it's not something that you can or should just decide you need, and start taking. However, if there is a Planned Parenthood clinic in your area this may be a good resource to try. A clinic doctor will determine if you are a good candidate for oral contraceptive pills and if so, can supply them to you at low or no cost. I hope this helps. Good luck.

OK. I'm not going to play this game..14 is too young to be needing birth control so just skip the whole thing and wait until you're old enough to make rational decisions. I know you don't want to hear that but...that's keeping it real as the kids say
