So they told me they cant accommodate me. Now let me say, This i worked in a nursing home as an aid with my first child doing heavy lifting. For eight months. Now i work doing less but there is some lifting. The doctor said that this normal pregnancy restriction and that my job should accommodate me. There are several woman pregnant at the job, yet they have no restriction. So the job said that im the only one. No the women dont lift patients by themselves or at all. I think that they are trying to get rid of me cause my unborn child father works with me. Its just funny that everyone who been pregnant been accommodated and yet they had me in a meeting with human resources, my manager and union representative.all this to discuss my restrictions and my further options on taking a fmla which only covers my job for three months which i need more time. Only cause the baby will not be here that soon. I think this is discrimination. Please any help will be helpful and if you went through this or a friend please let me know Reply to this Question Share |

Most sizable nursing home facilities have a policy manual for their employees. Find yours and read it. Many times it will spell out how they handle issues like this and then you have some leverage by holding them to the policies in their own handbook. If there is nothing tangible there contact the labor board in your city and schedule a meeting to talk to someone about the situation at work. They should be able to give you some good advice or refer you to a good lawyer.

It's illegal for them to fire you for getting pregnant. If they fire, demote, or place you in a less desirable position because you are pregnant you can (and should) sue them.
