Yet he doesn't work in the building industry, he works as a customer services manager and gets a high salary for it.Our kids (aged 8 and 12) can barely play outside in the back garden due to the amount of wire and timber that's covering the back garden.I asked my husband why he had so much and why he buys it, and he said it wasn't for DIY, but that it wasn't my business anyway. He said he's not going to do DIY with it, but it's for him and him alone to worry about. Our kids can't play out on the street either, so my husband's been really selfish.I've tried to reason with him, tried to spend some of his salary (which goes into our joint bank account) but he just won't stop buying timber and wire in bulk.He came home yesterday with loads more timber and wire and put it in the spare room.I need help, this is worrying me to the point where I don't know if we're going to get in debt because of it.He came home yesterday with loads more timber and wire and put it in the spare room.Adele

What is DIY? Has your husband done other impulsive spending sprees before? Why is it none of your business?

Maybe He is thinking of this as an investment? If the price of lumber and wire go up He is going to sell them at a profit. My guess is that He is planning on building something and just doesn't want to tell you what it is.
DIY is "Do It Yourself"
as in build the treehouse yourself.

I suppose in retaliation you could start buying stuff of your own in bulk, like bales of hay or something and have it put in the garage.
Strange behaviour, and so secretive too. Most odd.
