reader, anonymous, writes (12 May 2010): I think that is a strange thing for him to be angry about. Especially since he told you it was okay. My guess is that he might have gotten angry if you didn't take a drink at the time after he told you to. You had no way not to upset him.
I don't understand why you should have to get his permission to take a drink at all, unless you have already had alcoholism in your past. You are an adult and you can make your own choices. I think you did nothing wrong.
