I have a bad habit of shaking my legs up and down and up and down, really, really fast - teachers come up to me half way through the lesson and whisper "need to go to the toilet?", and when I say no they look all surprised and stuff...God, I have tried many times to break the habit - I wrote on my hands saying "stop it K (my name)" but the only thing that did was get me weird looks. O.o, I just did it....while I was writing this - it shakes the dinner table while I'm eating! It's soooo embarassing! I've tried telling my sister to tell me to stop it, but she forgot! .But do you see my problem? Please give me some advice! I don't know what to do!!!!!! Reply to this Question Share |

I would see a doctor. You may have a form of Restless Leg Syndrome. It may sound kind of hokey but it is apparently a real condition. But as the first poster mentioned, you can try meditation.
At any rate here is the link to Restless Leg Foundation. Maybe this can help. They have discussion boards much like this one and I'm sure you can find out online if you exhibit any symptoms.

Hope this helps.

There’s a lot of funny chemical reactions going on (this will pass, we’ve ALL been there!) and you seems to be burning off some of this by shaking your leg.
There may be a sub-conscious reason your doing this. Nerves, anxiety, burning off excess energy (try exercise).
People develop habits, some are great, some not so much. I’d suggest discussing it with a good therapist, and see if they can give you any insight (I’m not one!). You may even find someone who can assist with breaking unconscious behavior using hypnotism. I would not bother with a school councilor, unless your in a really good school with someone who’s got a good perspective – if they tell you to STOP, forget about them… telling people to simply “stop” doing a subconscious behavior is like trying to tell the sun not to rise.
GOOD LUCK!

Other than that, I would ask my doctor about it.
