She's mixed race and has long black hair, it was obvious she was part indian you could just tell from looking at her and I liked that about her. Then recently she changed the colour of her hair which is now lighter more of brown with golden tones in. But it's amazing how different the colour has made her look, it's somehow made her tanned skin look lighter, more of an olive tone? Even her eyes stand out a lot more, how that's possible from changing hair colour i don't know....But my point is now she looks more European, people ask her if she's spanish or italian when they see her. So my question is, how has her going from dark hair to lighter now made her now look so European? Reply to this Question Share |

For example, people from Norway are expected to have blonde hair and blue eyes, and pale skin. Greek people dark hair and dark eyes, and olive skin. Spanish people have olive/tanned skin and light brown hair, dark eyes. Italian people prove very recognisable over here, when people think they all have black hair, tanned skin and brown eyes. The way people think all Scottish people have ginger hair and all Irish people have green eyes. I'm English. I have dark brown hair, dark green/brown eyes and olive skin. People think I'm Irish, but I am a mixture of French and Swedish. So your girlfriend doesn't look more European, she just looks more what you would consider to be the typical European image.

Because light hair is almost exclusively a trait of European descendents, same as light eyes. A lot of the Brazilian women western people consider very beautiful, like Adriana Lima, look the way they do because they have a lot of Spanish ancestry.

It's a combination of factors. The first is the association and image we have of what people of a certain ethnicity look like. Second is color shemes/compatibility. Dark makes certain shades stand out, while light can downplay them.
For example: I'm dark blonde naturally. When I dyed my black as a teen, people started commenting I looked asian, while when I was blonde I never had that association. I do have a speck of asian blood though and my eyes do have a hint of it. It took having dark hair for people to spot it.
Adriana Lima (naturally black haired, golden tan, ice blue eyes) doesn't look so 'exotic' with blonde hair.

My question is ... does it matter?
If she like her new looks that is all that should matter.
As for the new haircolor, it might being out different skin tones that makes her look more olive then the tone she has with dark hair.
I'm blond and fair skinned, but if I dye my hair black or red I would look beyond pale.
