reader, anonymous, writes (5 November 2011): It might be that she doesn't really mean it - she's only teasing. That is very common in the west - to tease each other playfully. It's a large part of flirting.
However, if she DOES mean it then she is a snob and not very nice...
I suggest you talk to her about it and just say that it bugs you - what is the meaning behind it? As a girl from the USA she would probably expect that rather than you staying quiet.
