My Girlfriend can be too proud. She hurts me when she makes fun of me. Is this normal for girls to be so proud and unkind?

A male United Arab Emirates age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Here in Dubai, I have been in a relationship with a pretty American girl for the last 16 months. I am from Pakistan, I have been here for the last 6 years and doing clerical job.

She is just one year younger than me and is working on a very good position in a well-reputed company over here.

We love each other like crazy but at times I find her being really proud, making fun of my job and dress sense.

When she does this, I just smile and try diverting her mind from the topic. I consider her my divine love because before meeting her, I had her in my dream and will never answer her back, no matter if her jokes hurt me at times.

Why are some girls proud in the head while in a relationship with a guy? Is it common in USA? I would appreciate if any guys could clear my mind on this! Thanking you all in advance!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (5 November 2011):

It might be that she doesn't really mean it - she's only teasing. That is very common in the west - to tease each other playfully. It's a large part of flirting.

However, if she DOES mean it then she is a snob and not very nice...

I suggest you talk to her about it and just say that it bugs you - what is the meaning behind it? As a girl from the USA she would probably expect that rather than you staying quiet.

Good luck!
