Ever since she has started taking this injection our sex life has died because she is always bleeding, and will not have sex when she is on. After the first injection she was fine for a month then she came on and bled just a little bit each day for 2 months. On her second injection she went a week without bleeding and then the same thing happened. She came on again and she has been bleeding for over 5 weeks now. Please explain to me if these are normal side effects? Thank you.

i totally understand where you are coming from, i went onto the injection as a last resort as i was having really bad migraines with certain pills, bleeding, acne etc
i had 2 injections and after my first one saw my weight gain dramatically and gained a whopping stone, which doesnt sound alot but nearly up a whole dress size- i immediately started bleeding and started feeling really down and tired because of this.
i went back for my 2nd one early which they said should ease the bleeding to avail!
i didnt go back for my 3rd one as i love swimming and am planning on going on holiday soon and dont want to be bleeding everwhere its the worst feeling ever!!
im 5 weeks down the track and still waiting, GP keeps saying is normal so fingers crossed!
the worst thing is that once its in, its in nothing can change you just have to wait for it to get out of your system!DEPRESSING!!!
bare with your gf if its what she really wants!

Hi there again, As long as the doctors are aware of what is going on, with her system, and by your letter, what is happening to her is to be expected. What I mentioned before about the time released iron pills should be considered, because her tiredness is directly tied to her loss of iron, she will as I said before, become anemic from the loss of blood and iron in her system. The doctors should had let her know to take iron to build up her blood. Do impress upon her to buy some time released iron pills, the other green ones will constipation, and take at least one a day, she can check with the doctor for confirmation. Good luck to both of you. Take care always.

Depo-provera virtually always produces erratic, dysfunction bleeding for the first 12 weeks. This will occasionally persist through the second injection. After this increasing numbers of women lose their periods all together, so that by 1 years 70% have no bleeding at all. Any competant physician prescribing this drug had a duty to advise you exactly what to expect!
Though the injections are given 12 weekly that take 15 weeks or there abouts to WEAR off.
we will see !!!

firstly i have noticed my gf`s weight go up quite a lot and she has mood swings that she never had b4 she went on this injection! i have sujjested the pill but she says she wouldnt remember to take it. my gf is very stubborn and i have asked her to stop using it which she refuses. she reckons when her course finishes she wont have a period again (maybe not for a year)and we can have all the sex we want. i am very worried for her health i dont mind waiting i did i b4 for 2 months and i would do it again but if her health is at risk im going to have to speak to her again. i dont know how she will take it if i told her about this, i think she would go mad but maybe its for the best!!! i just want my gf back the way she was, also she is now always VERY tired she has lost all her energy and she is in her mid 20`s. ;(

Hi, It really sounds as if her body is going through changes with this injection process, that does not seem to going right, or this is the way it will go until her body stablizes. She, hopefully is letting her GYN know about these bleeding sessions. She should also be taking time releaed iron pills, because she is depleting her body of iron, and she could become anemic, sapping her body stength. Please encourage her to talk to her GYN about the effects of the injections. Take care and good luck.

This is very bad, she needs to see her doctor and be put on a new method of birth control... this injection sounds like the depto shot, but has been known to cause lots of problem like excessive bleeding or none at all, along with weight gain and possiable infertility. Suggest that she gets on the pill, or look into other methods... she needs to make an emergency call to the dr. and if he wants to keep her on this drug have her get a second opinion.

Back to your question, no it doesn't sound normal. Has she been to see a doctor about it?! I know they tend to screw up your cycle completely but you need to get that checked out to make sure all is well. There could be side effects with anyone, with any drug.
Ranges between person to person.
