He's fingered me and I've given him hand jobs.. Is there any way you can get pregnant from just not washing your hands properly?? All my friends laughed when I said it to them and I know I'm probably just over reacting but my period is never late anymore and I'm only gona be 18 in a couple of months! When we do have sex we're going to do it responsively and we're both comfortable with each other - he has also been with previous partners - so its not a case of being immature! Thanks

ann17 is verified as being by the original poster of the questionI had thought about stress and that as a factor in making my period late and I tracked the past year aswell.. Iv been telling myself to calm down and yer replies have reassured me somewhat more as my friends didnt exactly do that. Thanks!

One of which is being pregnant. But the chances of you being pregnant are so slim that in your case I would have though of different causes altogether before jumping to the conclusion that you might be pregnant.
Many reasons why the period is late, or missing altogether, can be serious and should be investigated by your doctor. To calm you down a little bit, a very common cause for a late or missing period is stress, which is harmless generally speaking.

There is a very slim chance (and I do mean slim), that if he had sperm on his hands and then fingered you you could be pregnant. Clearly your friends weren't exactly helpful. If you're worried, best to go to the doctor and talk about it.

If it did happen, it would be before you washed your hands (I would imagine just rinsing them off with water wouldn't be sustainable for sperm). If there's semen on either of your hands or fingers and if it goes in or even possibly near your vagina there is a chance you could get pregnant, but it's highly unlikely. I'm sure you're fine, don't stress so much it makes your period come even later.

reader, anonymous, writes (12 January 2010): there is a small possibility of becoming pregnant this way however it is very rare - i would say you are justified in your worry even if the chances are silm however to put your mind at ease i would buy a test just to make sure. Sometimes worry can effect your period - when i was 24 i missed my period for a whole five months as i'd been stressing over finishing my degree. I wasn't sleeping with anyone at the time or in any type of relationship thus i knew pregnancy was impossible thus worry can effect your cycle. But if you are already a week late then getting tested will give you very reliable results. Also to pretend STIs and STDs, i'd personally recommend using protectin when doing oral sex too - just something to think about for when you feel comfortable enough to move beyond handjobs etc.
