Your friend could be playing a trick on you. That boy could be lying about not liking you. Who knows?
The good news is you can find out. What you do is go and ask the boy out on a date. Don't have a friend do it, do it yourself. The reason you do it yourself is so you can see his reaction. Does he get nervous when you come talk to him? Does he try to show off? Does he ignore you and walk away?
You should be able to get a good read on him pretty quickly by just addressing this yourself. Of course, my response is assuming you like him too or you likely wouldn't be here.
