She's very sexually active with her boyfriend, and we are very open and honest about this kind of stuff. (I'm not having sex atm with my bf) She told me that on the fourth week of the month, she takes off her patch and her period doesn't come for a couple days after and during those days she has unprotected sex with him.EEEP! I was so shock. I told her, "You know you can still get pregnant!" and She said, "No, you can't, there is 1 chance out of a million and I will never be that 1"What are some tips or advice, I can give her? And what really are her chances of getting pregnant. Does the patch still protect you even after it's off during your period week?I don't know much about it.. I'm just afraid of her we've been bff for 10 years. :( and we're only 18.

Her chance of getting pregnant during the week she's off the patch is no higher than the weeks when the patch is on.
Now, of course, there IS definitely still a chance of getting pregnant but assuming she's using the patch correctly, the chances do not increase b/c the patch is off.
And there's all the issues of STDs/STIs from unprotected sex, which she's DEFINITELY NOT protected against, but that's a whole different issue...

I think she's just following the instructions. I looked at the website and it says you apply it weekly for 3 weeks then go patchless for one. So stop worrying.
She is not, of course, protected against STIs. And neither are you. Just remember that!
Good luck!

No that's actually how the patch (and hormonal birth control) works. You're still protected during that week when the patch is off, when the ring is out, and when you're not taking the pill. You're still just as protected as you are when you take it or when you have the patch on or ring in. It's just your "break week" but you don't need a backup method during that week. It says so right in the little pamphlet and your doctor can say so as well. If it didn't protect you during that week they'd have you continue taking it. The week for your period is mostly a psychological thing as it's not a real period. You're still protected during that week.

you CAN get pregnant on birth control my cousin had two beautiful children while she was on birth control
i got pregnant on birth control but lost it due to a miscarrage
id STRONGLY advise she get a test because if she is and she keeps taking birth control it can seriously harm the baby
after that if she is pregnant she has LOTS of options she can choose to either keep the baby, abort it, or put it up for adoption

The moment a woman is not protected, she can become pregnant. Even during a period. Even a one in billion chance is still a chance. She's being a little immature. If she wants to screw up, fine. You warned her. Just be there with tissues and a shoulder to cry on if it goes wrong.

Did she not listen to the clinic doctor when she got it? Chances of her getting pregnant aren't very high because you're releasing eggs and sperm only live a day or two in the uterus. But there still is a chance, her highest chance is during her ovulation. If I were her and she doesn't want a baby then I would listen to what the doctor said.
