We would talk everyday at lunch and got on really well, then he got sacked I didn't hear about it straight away as I was on holiday but a week later a friend said he sent him a message asking him to pass his details on to me. He gave me two emails and his mobile.I sent one email he replied two days later so I replied but then he said nothing. He comments stuff on Facebook but we don't talk like we did. Is he embarrassed at being sacked? Or is he concerned his wife will get the wrong idea. He has a history which I belive his wife knows about but it wasn't like that between us? Maybe he is concerned it will ruin our friendship?? Any ideas would be appreciated

He's most likely embarrassed, possibly both. You should think of something nice to say in an email that indicates that you would still like to be friends.
He could be a little depressed or stressed, so maybe you should ask if he'd like to go for some coffee (or tea if that's what you guys do).
